When stress becomes too much to carry alone

A certain amount of stress is part of life. But when it builds up - through work demands, relationship difficulties, financial pressure, health worries, caring responsibilities, or simply too many things happening at once - it can start to affect everything: your mood, your sleep, your patience, your health.

Stress often creeps up gradually. You cope, and then you cope some more, until one day you realise you’re running on empty. Or it arrives suddenly - a redundancy, a bereavement, a relationship ending or work overload, and the ground shifts beneath you.

Why talking helps

When you’re stressed, it can feel like you don’t have time to stop. But making space to talk - really talk, without having to manage anyone else’s reaction - can be surprisingly powerful. Counselling offers a place to step back, get some clarity, and work out what needs to change.

Your counsellor won’t tell you what to do. Instead, they’ll help you explore what’s going on, identify what’s within your control, and find strategies that work for your life - not someone else’s.

It’s not about being broken

Seeking support when you’re under pressure isn’t a sign of failure. It’s a practical step - the same way you’d see a physiotherapist for a persistent injury rather than just pushing through. Stress left unchecked tends to get worse. Catching it early makes a difference.
