Service Terms and Conditions
These terms explain how counselling with Physis Affordable Counselling (PAC) works, what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you. Please read them before your first session. By booking an assessment or attending sessions, you agree to these terms.
About our service
PAC is run by Physis Scotland. Our counsellors are trainees on the Physis Scotland Diploma in Counselling using Transactional Analysis (TA). All of them are in advanced clinical training, have been endorsed to practise, receive regular clinical supervision and hold professional insurance.
By attending counselling with PAC, you understand that your counsellor is a supervised trainee, supported by their clinical supervisor and by Physis Scotland.
PAC offers counselling to adults aged 18 and over. We offer planned, appointment-based counselling and are not a crisis service.
Assessment and sessions
Before counselling begins, you will have an assessment to make sure our service is right for you. If we feel another service would better meet your needs, we will explain why and suggest alternatives.
-
Sessions take place in person at 22 Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh, EH3 7RN.
-
Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes.
-
You can have up to 20 sessions, with the possibility to extend if agreed with your counsellor.
-
Your sessions will be at in the same room on the same day and time each week.
If your counsellor needs to cancel a session, we will let you know as soon as possible.
Fees and payment
Each session costs a fixed fee of £30. The initial assessment session costs £20 and will last no longer than 30 minutes.
Payment must be made either by bank transfer or card payment before your counselling session. If payment has not been received, the session cannot go ahead. Repeated late payment may lead to your contract being terminated early.
You will be given the payment details when your assessment session is booked.
Cancellations and missed sessions
If you need to cancel a session, please give at least 48 hours' notice by emailing contact@edinburghcounselling.org
-
If you cancel with enough notice and have already paid, your payment will be carried over to your next session.
-
Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed without letting us know, will be charged in full.
-
Missed or late-cancelled sessions count towards your 20 sessions.
-
If you miss 3 sessions in a row without letting us know, we will contact you. If we do not hear back, we may end your counselling and offer your space to someone else.
If you arrive late, your session will still finish at the usual time.
Confidentiality
What you share in counselling is confidential. There are some limits to this:
-
Supervision. Your counsellor discusses their work with a clinical supervisor, without using details that could identify you. Supervisors are also bound by confidentiality.
-
Risk of serious harm. If we believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, we may need to share information with your GP, emergency services or another agency.
-
Legal requirements. We may have to share information if required by law.
-
Running the service. Limited information, such as appointment times, attendance and payments, may be shared with PAC staff to run the service. This never includes what you talk about in your sessions.
Wherever possible and safe to do so, we will talk to you before sharing anything.
Contact with your GP
By attending counselling with PAC, you agree that we may contact your GP, or other professionals involved in your care, if we have serious concerns about your wellbeing or safety. We would normally do this with your knowledge, and only without it in exceptional circumstances.

Ending counselling
Your counselling will end after 20 sessions, or earlier if you and your counsellor agree. Your counsellor will talk with you about your ending in advance, so you have time to prepare.
You can choose to end your counselling at any time. We would ask you to let us know, and if possible to attend a final session to bring your work to a close.
We may end your counselling early if:
-
you miss sessions without letting us know
-
you do not pay for sessions as agreed
-
there is violent, threatening or abusive behaviour
-
your needs would be better met by another service
If this happens, we will explain why and, where possible, suggest other sources of support.
